Justin Meli twists together frail branches of loving someone who’s struggling with addiction and grief in all its forms. “Wreckage” examines the rubbles often made into piles in our lives. Soon or later, we’ll be brushed with some sort of ruin. It’s inevitable. And. you can never be ready for it. “I can’t give up / Praying for so long now,” sings Meli with a lonesome snarl in the back of his throat. The lyrics nearly strangle him, squeezing out his demons and all the misery that once contaminated his blood. The arrangement haunts the listener with an agonizing throb that feels equally jolting.
