The U.S. shifted on its axis when MAGA stormed the Capitol in January 2021. The world seemed to change so drastically after that day. Gravel-voiced troubadour Kaz Murphy funnels a feeling of unease into his new song “PACIFIST BUYS GUN,” which also references a friend who bought a gun following the fateful day. “They shattered the spell, and we watched it on our TVs as the country fell,” he sings. “Now you wander under the sun / Pacifist Buys Gun” and “When your family’s so afraid / You’ll do anything it takes.” The chipper arrangement deceives you, but the lyrics are so sharp, you can’t ignore them.
