Over the last few years, singer-songwriter Max García Conover uncovered an unexpected source of inspiration. His grandfather, quite the enchanter, penned dozens of love letters to his soon-to-be wife while she was quarantined in a hospital for two years. The 1940s were a different time, yet love’s universal appeal remains the same. With those stack of letters, Conover poured over them and began writing songs. One of the standouts, titled “Yeye Won’t Wait,” anchors a new EP, across which Conover delves into their romance with delicate precision. There’s an honesty permeating every syllable of the project, best exhibited through Conover’s warm, amber-lit voice. It both flutters in the air and tethers the listener to the ground, as he ebbs and flows through the annals of time for a celebration of love and hope. “No mission they’ve been given, except for kissing in a little kitchen,” sings Conover. His voice ricochets on stunning acoustic guitar, Paula Prieto’s harmonies echoing with blinding brilliance. With a simple, gliding melody, it’s a bowl-you-over kind of performance.
