Welcome to Taste Test, a song/video review series of SubmitHub-only gemstones

Uncovering clarity comes in confronting your demons, wiping away the cobwebs, and allowing yourself to accept it, unflinchingly. Harvesting R&B and glam-rock, Montreal-based singer-songwriter Polychuck cooly seeks out that threshold, a new reckoning for himself, and in doing so, he arrives upon who he was meant to become. “Nailed to the X” blurs the genre lines, and his vocal, slimy yet enticing, slices through the fog as he seeks a new frame of mind. “I got clarity on my side” reads the opening line. His bold assertion is quickly evidenced in his daring to tight-rope walk between musical styles, and it works to great effect. “It’s best for me / What sets me free / It ain’t a fucked up destiny,” he continues as the production spins a sticky web around him. Percussion and other shadowy layers throb and ooze into a ambient blanket. He ultimately rises out of it all, but for now, he immerses the listener inside it all.
