We all have baggage. The things we should have discarded by now—whether that’s deep, unhealed wounds or past versions of our being—haunt us. And they follow us around like a small black storm cloud. Our umbrella has been open for so long that it nearly snaps in two. With their new song “17,” Red Langur wind skin-peeling strings against a hopeful piano backdrop, percussion ringing like that of a cathedral’s piercing bell. “Life goes on,” they sing. Life might be riddled with pain, regret, and shame, and it’ll all consume us if we let it. We have all the power.
“17” samples the group’s debut album, expected later this year.
