Sometimes, love steals away in the night. It’s a ghost, one that haunts your every moment. “Let It Pass” finds folk-rock band Starpainter musing on a lover who has faded from view and gone away on the horizon. “I’ve always known how, but I’ve never known why / You take off easy like a sparrow might,” those words fall like a torrential downpour. The weight seems to crush the bones, yet there’s enough gasping air to utter those particular words. Later, their lamentations grow even more poetic, “Gonna take you down to the river / Let it pass by in the yellow light of evening.” With a broken heart, Starpainter make sure to confess that their love has never once vanished. It’s just grown weary.
