In 2026, we’ve landed in the bad timeline. With executive orders flying off the president’s desk faster than he scarfs down a bag of Cheetos, we’ve lost the plot and lost deep compassion for one another. That’s where soul-pop band The Nth Power comes in. Their fourth album, Never Alone, certainly lives up to its moniker. Eight songs groove harder than the tides, bubbling up “with the intention of sharing love back into the world, with the understanding that all people deserve love,” shares drummer and bandleader Nikki Glaspie, known for working with Beyoncรฉ and Dumpstaphunk. “You donโt have to know someone to love them.”
She adds, “Itโs about inspiring others to have more compassion for your fellow man, and mankind as a whole. Weโre only here for a speck of time, so be nice. Time is precious.โ
Lead single “Dream Alive” opens the album with real firecracker energy. “I know we still have so far to go,” the lyrics buzz the eardrums. That refrain serves as a vow to carve out the future you want to see, setting the tone for a record that’s just like a fleece blanket getting you all warm and cozy. “In the distance, I see all my fading memories,” the group reflects in the trippy title track. “I free fall with open hearts.” They extend a friendly embrace and promise that we are never truly alone in this world. We only need to look around at the people in our lives, and perhaps even strangers.
“You’re like a wind that carries me,” the bandโalso comprised of guitarist Nick Cassarino and bassist Nate Edgarโadmits through the windswept “Finding Ourselves.” The chilly “Smile,” featuring jazz trumpeteer Nicholas Payton and saxophonist Skerik, brushes through the super-charged horsepower of real soul. Everything before leads into the closer “Simple Life,” with brass collective The Soul Rebels, in which the band lists off all the things they’d love to have to lead a simpler, more grounded life.
The Nth Power’s Never Alone emerges as exactly the kind of record we need right now. With relentless doomscrolling and the overwhelming sense of hopelessness, maybe if we remember to love one another, that could fix so many of today’s problems. We can only dream, right?
