Welcome to Playlists, a series where we turn over the reigns to artists to curate the next big playlist

When a song hits you in that special, can’t-think-about-anything-else kind of way, you’re left bawling your eyes out on the bathroom tile. Metaphorically (or perhaps, quite literally). The chill of a song runs down your spine, a shockwave to your nervous system and quaking outward into your emotional stems. Even if the aftereffects are only rail-like goosebumps, the lyrics and melody mean something far deeper than you might expect. Over the summer, synth-pop queen Violet Days, who readies a new EP this fall, found herself slowing sinking into a spiral of electronic pop and indie-rock.

So, it seems appropriate Violet Days (real name Lina Hansson) is sharing the songs that have stuck like superglue to her brain. From bülow to ARIZONA to Coldplay to JP Saxe and Parcels, her picks for Songs on My Mind will drown your eardrums with oceanic waves of sound, lapping at the earlobes and flooding the canal. The lyrics, too, promise to move you to feel something, anything, and you may need to grab a bottle of red wine when all is said and done.

Below, Days walks us through her picks with pin-point insight. Get to spinning!

“Electric Touch” by Arizona

This is one of my obsessions this summer; the vocal sound is just perfect, and it gives me all the vibes I need.

“Out of Order” by Highasakite

Make sure you have a pretty view in front of you while listening to this one, and try to predict where it goes. Enjoy!

“In My Place” by Coldplay

Because I heard it the other day after a long time, and it’s my favorite song to forget about so I can fall in love with it again and again.

“You & Jennifer” by bülow

This song is genius. It’s super playful but still sad but also pretty badass. Yes, you should listen to this!

“sex money feelings die” by Lykke Li

Lykke has always been a go-to for me. She’s always bringing something interesting to the table. This time she goes Drake.

“Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” by The Smiths

I was never a huge fan of The Smiths, but this pretty song made its way to the soundtrack of my summer.

“Jumpsuit” by Twenty One Pilots

Nobody does it like TOP. As with everything they release, best workout soundtrack!

“When the Night is Over” by Lord Huron

Doesn’t matter what mood I’m in, this always works for me. It makes me calm, and it’s such a pretty one.

“The Few Things” by JP Saxe

When I was in LA last time, I went to ‘School Night,’ which is a Monday club at Bardot in Hollywood with new artists showcasing. I didn’t know who was playing that night. I heard this song, and I was HOOKED. Listen for yourself!

“Hideout” by Parcels

Cook a nice dinner, have a drink and have this in the background.
