Welcome to The Singles Bar, a review series focused on new single and song releases.

When Pat Benatar howled that “Love is a Battlefield,” she wasn’t lying. She spilled that tea with fully-teased hair, a gleam in her hair and a neck-full of beads clashing in the neon lasers. And she never looked back once. WizG‘s Josh Wizan and Kostas Garcia, making up a fresh-faced DJ and production duo out of sunny LA, inhabit a similar evocative headspace with their latest track, “Talk About It.” As the synths swirling in hypnotic color tones, striking high in the sky like a fireworks display, the unnamed vocalist gets caught in a storm she never thought possible. “I know I’mma flirt sometimes / I know I get drunk some nights / I know I get way too high / I just want to live it up with you,” she coaxes her beau, making amends and owning up to the err of her ways.

“When you put your lips on mine, I know that we’ll be fine,” she concedes. The barrier between them falls and fades away a mint-green mist on the horizon, as if it never even existed in the first place. Garcia and Wizan’s crafty choices pop and fizz with a metallic shimmer, erupting with chewy, lush vocal distortion that operates as both an intense, warped fantasy and the embodiment of what true love really feels like. It’s nearly indescribable, but the song’s blood-rush flushes the cheeks with a rosy tint.

“Talk About It” clips on the heels of WizG’s previous rave banger, the Mechi Pieretti-starring “Back to You.” The evidence is certainly mounting to illustrate exactly why the pop pair are making a splash on the west coast; they’ve cultivated millions of streams and have opened for such titans as Lost Kings and Matoma, further culling the music scene with a fire in their gut that is inextinguishable. “Do you think you could walk me home / I don’t wanna go home alone,” the singer nuzzles her lover’s shoulder, slipping into the brisk late-night and traversing down the wet avenue. “Step in closer, baby / Let’s not fight about it.”

Wizan and Garcia practice some sort of glittering sorcery, and we’re so here for it.
