Kassi Ashton has always been fearless. So, it’s not too surprising that her new song is called “Bitches.” It’s as if Loretta Lynn made “Coal Miner’s Daughter” for a modern generation. “I come from a long line of bitches / Thick-skinned, tough-as-nails misses,” Ashton bites down on the melody. She’s not only reclaiming the word “bitch,” often used derogatorily for a free-thinking woman with a spitfire spirit, but saying, “If you want to call me a bitch, that’s fine. Here’s what a bitch is.” And we love that for her.
