We all envision a life far removed from our own, one brimming with thrills and the kind of invigoration only buried in our imaginations. It’s the spontaneous cross-country road trip, hitting the deserted highway at 100 mph; it’s packing up everything you own and never looking back; and it’s letting life wash up and over your shoulder blades before the ocean foam tickles your check bones. Alt-pop apprentice and blog staple Vezza depicts such a runaway story with his new song, “Permanent Holiday” ⏤ an effervescent blast of color and freedom only unlocked by leaving an old world behind forever. The accompanying visual, premiering today, heightens the sun-kissed whimsy with a sandy, vibrant backdrop. “I wrote a song about a couple that moved to the other side of the world from New Jersey. It was wild and alien to me, so I wrote about my perspective,” writes Vezza to B-Sides & Badlands over email.

“Stepping into a new life, far away / I’m going on a permanent holiday,” he pops the top on life’s unpredictability, awash in bright drum pitter-patter that bursts at the seams. “Home’s where you are / Home’s where you go,” later uncurls from his lips, lungs full of sweet summer air. But that tangy nectar serves him well as it charges him up for the road ahead. He steps onto the edge of the world for a life he could not have possibly discovered if he hadn’t taken the leap in the first place. Filmed on the shores of Wildwood, New Jersey, home to not only wide stretches of sand but a roller coaster-scape, the video casts a magical, stardust hue across Vezza’s twinkling, prominent silhouette. Alongside girlfriend and singer Rebecca Campina, the two confront the world together, going toe-to-toe with uncertainty and the glow of what tomorrow might bring.

“We woke up at 4 am and ran to the beach to shoot it. The sunrises are always so beautiful with the sun’s light going in-between the rollercoasters. Our outfits are from Goodwill. I think we were trying to go for a ‘Stranger Things’ vibe. The shirt I’m wearing I picked up on sale for a whopping $2,” Vezza explains, also outlining his collaboration with Campina. “I wanted the video to be a very minimal, simple visual for the song. Rebecca really contributed to the track with the harmonies in the chorus, and her beautiful vocal in the verse. I wrote all of the lyrics, and we did have outside interest from collaborators to take her part; but we really fell in love with the demo and decided to leave it.”

“Permanent Holiday” is just the latest in a string of releases this year, including “You Are My Heroin” (which we had the pleasure to premiere, as well).
